Bud Break 5K Run/Walk

Bud Break 5K Run/Walk is a certified asphalt course that winds through scenic spring Arboretum landscapes, including challenging hills and rolling prairies.

Medals will be awarded to top three runners overall and to the top three men and women in the following age brackets: 12 & under, 13-15, 16-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79, 80 and above.

Results will be posted on Raceberry Jam and on this page.

New Race Course

The race courses for both the Bud Break 5K and Daffodil Dash have been changed to provide participants with a safer running environment and to include new areas of the Arboretum.

Bud Break 5K will now start and end at the Sensory Garden Parking Lot, running backwards on 3-mile drive. We have added part of the Eastern Drive to the Tashjian Bee and Pollinator Discovery Center in the race. Daffodil Dash will run through the Grace B. Dayton Wildflower Garden next to the Sensory Garden Parking Lot.

Daffodil Dash

The Daffodil Dash is a shortened 1K fun run around the Grace B. Dayton Wildflower Garden for kids ages 5-12. Medals will be awarded to all boys and girls in the Daffodil Dash.

* Participants who register by April 20th will be guaranteed a T-shirt in their size. Those who register after that date will still receive a T-shirt, but it may not be in their size.

This event is a fundraiser for the Arboretum. The Arboretum is a 501 c3 non-profit and relies on donations and fundraisers to support its growth, outreach and mission. No refunds will be given.

Race Day Schedule

  • 7:30 a.m. - Check-in and race-day registration begins, Oswald Visitor Center
    Bud Break 2018 will start and end at the Sensory Garden parking lot
  • 9:00 a.m. - Bud Break 5K Run
  • 9:05 a.m. - Bud Break 5K Walk
  • 10:00 a.m. - Daffodil Dash Run/Walk
    Daffodil Dash 2018 will start and end at Wildflower Garden
  • 10:15 a.m. - Awards and Celebration at the Sensory Garden Parking Lot

Three-Mile Drive will be closed to vehicle traffic until 11 a.m. while the Bud Break & Daffodil races are being held.
