Heroes to Hives is a unique program offered through Michigan Food and Farming Systems (MIFFS) that seeks to address financial and personal wellness of veterans through professional training and community development centered around beekeeping. This group is co-hosting its first-ever conference and inaugural gathering for military service members at the Arboretum in partnership with the Bee Lab/Bee Squad and Bee Veterans at the University of Minnesota Entomology Department. All active Veterans, Reservists, Active Duty and National Guard members of the U.S. Armed Forces are invited to the conference and eligible for the Heroes to Hives program — and they are allowed to enroll their adult children, spouses, partners and caregivers. Since 2016, more than 15,000 people have been through the Heroes to Hives programming, which has partners in seven U.S. states.
