Outdoor Adventure Challenge: Activity Kit To-Go

Suggested ages 7-12 (Children ages 7-8 will require adult assistance with some activities)

Pick up at the Arboretum or Mailed to you! See ordering options below.

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to use the natural world as the setting for exciting adventures! Login to the secret online platform to receive your IRL (In Real Life, outdoors!) survival skill challenges such as experiments, investigations and photo hunts. Points are awarded for each completed mission and an optional leaderboard may provide extra encouragement to head outdoors! Put your abilities to the test as you make new discoveries, and complete survival skill challenges:
  • Learn how to build forts and collect clean water
  • Develop wildcrafting skills like foraging and camouflage
  • Discover the night sky with urban astronomy activities
  • Get to know your neighborhood insects with citizen science projects
  • Create recycled arts and crafts projects with natural materials
Kit includes supplies for ONE full set of projects, plus:
  • Access to a password-protected online platform where participants will receive instructions and can submit completed challenges
  • Recipes, fun resources and other extras to continue the fun beyond the kit
How it works
  • Order (1) kit per child
  • Participants must have occasional access to a device or computer that allows them to access the activity missions. (Taking part in the challenge by posting photos and videos to the online platform to earn points is encouraged but optional)
  • Optional: Play with a friend! Friends who also register for this activity kit can play together with you. Enter your friends' name(s) in the box at checkout and we will put you in the same group game together in the online platform.
  • Kids will need a few common household supplies and items outside in a yard or natural area. A complete list of additional items needed will be included with the kit.
  • Kits can be mailed or picked up at the Arboretum's Apple House, located 1 mile west of the Arboretum main entrance. Pickup directions and additional access information will be emailed to you prior to your kit pickup date.
