Type of Garden

Inspired by the tradition of European formal gardens, the Elizabeth Carr Slade Perennial Garden features a parterre designed in quadrants around a circular pool and fountain. Visitors can explore the garden’s plantings from paved pathways or relax on a bench and enjoy the view of the fountain from across the lawns that occupy the outer quadrant of the parterre. The Perennial Garden includes native and cultivated herbaceous perennial plants in addition to a variety of shrubs, small trees, grasses, annuals and aquatic plants to inspire home gardeners and provide ample forage for pollinators throughout the growing season.
