Ordway Picnic Shelter

Designed by noted architect Edwin Lundie and built in 1962, the Ordway Shelter features Douglas fir beams fixed in place with wooden pegs. The Ordway Shelter overlooks the Green Heron Pond with its Trex Deck performance/viewing area.

In an effort to maintain picnic spaces for the general public, the Ordway Shelter is not available to rent for private groups.

Directions

For the closest access park in the Ordway/Sensory Garden parking lot.

After you gain entry past the Arboretum gatehouse, follow the drive towards the Oswald Visitor Center.
Drive past the main visitor center parking bays.
Turn left at the second stop sign towards Three-Mile Drive.
Continue straight up a hill (Do not turn right onto Three-Mile Drive).
Continue straight down the hill.
You will see a large picnic shelter on your left.
Turn right into the Ordway/Sensory Garden parking lot.
