Watercolors by Jeanne Long and Sandra Muzzy January 7-June 28, 2009 (extended) In the Reedy Gallery
Two friends of the Arboretum take opposite, but complementary, approaches as they explore the Arboretum through the seasons. Jeanne Long takes the long view, capturing the Arboretum's beauty in award-winning landscapes - some you'll surely recognize. Sandy Muzzy zooms in close to examine the small details of the life that's hidden within those scenes: feathers, nests, stones, flowers, tiny critters - the artist admiring the "artistry" of Mother Nature. Together, they have created an intimate and appealing portrait of the Arboretum.
If you are already longing for spring, come see this exhibit!
For Members Only: Meet-the-Artists Reception and Nature Journal Demonstration Sunday, February 8, 2-4 p.m. MacMillan Auditorium
Do you enjoy walking through the Arboretum so much that you have wished you could take it home with you? You know the flowers are "for looking and not for picking." You've taken some great photos, but they didn't quite capture what you felt. Maybe you thought about sitting down and attempting to sketch a stand of trees or a waterfall - but where to begin?
Bring a friend, meet the artists, and learn a simple, personal method for "bringing the Arboretum home" with you any time you want. Sandy Muzzy and Jeanne Long will share with you their techniques for keeping nature journals. Accomplished, award-winning painters, they will show you how to use attractive and convenient art materials. They'll help you start seeing the essence of that leaf or flower or tree and translating it with pigment onto paper. Both Jeanne and Sandy have spent many hours at the Arboretum, and their sketchbooks and journals will be on display alongside their paintings.
Free to members and their guests. Reservations required. Please call 952-443-1422 by Thursday, February 4th to leave your name, member ID, and expected number in your party.
