Adult chaperone required for all students under 18. Recommend 1 adult chaperone for every 10 students. Chaperones in excess of 1 per every 5 students are $15/person. 

 

If your group would like to eat on the Arboretum grounds, students may bring their own lunch, pre-arrange lunch with Arboretum Catering, or use the Arboretum Cafe

Exploring Plant Science Careers at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum

DURATION: 90 minutes
LOCATION: Available at the Arboretum OR at your school! 

Minimum group size: 10 students
Maximum group size: 25 students

This walk-and-talk tour with a University of Minnesota Horticultural Science faculty member covers the importance of a botanical garden, arboretum and/or city park to our communities. During this experience, students will be guided through various demonstration gardens and plant collections that are vital to the goals of a public garden! This tour emphasizes the many career opportunities in public gardens and horticulture, including plant breeding, plant care and management, conservation and plant curation. Careers in public horticulture include:
  • Curator of Plants
  • Landscape Gardener
  • Professor
  • Scientist
  • Arborist
  • Restorationist
  • Cartographer
and more!

If choosing to participate in this field trip at the Arboretum, please know that it takes place out-of-doors, and will take place rain or shine. Dress appropriately for the unpredictable Minnesota weather!

$25 per group + $7.50 registration fee, includes gate admission for up to 5 accompanying adults.

Helpful Information

Minimum/Maximum Students 
  • Minimum 12 students/session
  • Maximum is 3 classes/96 students per session
    Spring field trips taking place at the Sensory Garden have a maximum 2 classes/64 students per session

Chaperones 

  • Chaperones are free up to 1 adult:5 students
  • Minimum requirement is 1 adult:10 students
  • Adults beyond 1:5 pay $15 admission
  • Note: these numbers do include the teachers attending, though do not include paras or nurses accompanying special needs students.

Cancellation Policies 

  • Programs are held rain or shine
  • In extreme weather conditions, we reserve the right to cancel programs for your safety. You will not be charged a cancellation fee under these circumstances
  • No refunds if you cancel less than 30 days in advance
  • Final adjustment count for # of students and all field trip fees are due at least 30 days in advance

The University of Minnesota Landscape Arboretum respects the privacy of website visitors to the extent permitted by law.
