Known for her jazzy colors and semi-abstract designs, Karen Knutson teaches watercolor-and-collage workshops across the country. Her teaching style is playful and relaxed and her explanations are accessible and easy to follow. At this retreat, students will learn how to loosen up, create a unique design, build color, and incorporate collage to enhance texture - all in the peaceful, inspiring setting of the Arboretum. Co-sponsored by the Edina Art Center
During the first two days, students will paint a floral watercolor in the traditional manner, paying attention to technique, simple shapes, and good composition. In the second half of the workshop, students will learn how to take that same subject and give it a semi-abstract twist. In addition to painting techniques, they will learn how to expand their imagination and push colors to surprising new levels - creating colors that glow is a primary goal of this class.
Karen will also give a tour of her works on exhibit in the Reedy Gallery, explaining her process and her inspiration. Call 952-443-1422 for reservations and information.
An exhibit of Karen Knutson and Carol (aka Gray) McIntyre's paintings will be featured in the Arboretum's Reedy Gallery in November and December. To learn more about Karen and see examples of Karen's paintings, visit to www.karenknutson.com.
