Early frost got some things, but Swiss Chard, Eggplant and all the herbs were still doing well. Unfortunately, Community Garden rules require all gardens cleaned up by October 15th, so everything is now gone.
Our space remains an example for other gardeners, as weed barrier and mulch were very effective weed controls. It's a bit more work, but cleans up easily and the space is now clean of everything, including weeds.
Dahlias and cannas planted between the demonstration gardens are dug and awaiting winter storage. They were hit hard by the frost, so that allowed us to meet the clean-up deadline. Interestingly, dahlias in my yard only two miles away are still in bloom.
The City will provide us the space again next year and we are considering that offer.
