Join Raghavan Iyer for After-Hours Booksigning & Samplings

The Minnesota Landscape Arboretum presents "Curried Flavors," an after-hours tasting, presentation and book-signing event with culinary expert and cookbook author Raghavan Iyer, on Monday, May 12, from 6 to 8 p.m., in the Great Hall of the Arboretum's Oswald Visitor Center. Join us for this exclusive after-hours party in celebration of Iyer's newest cookbook masterpiece, "660 Curries: The Gateway to Indian Cooking" (Workman Publishing, $32.50). Four years in the making and comprising 832 pages, "660 Curries" is a comprehensive overview of the heart and soul of East Indian cooking.

The "Curried Flavors" evening will include generous samplings of appetizers such as Smoky Eggplant with Garlic and Red Chiles on Crostini; Minty Kidney Beans with Potatoes; Stewed Pineapple with Golden Raisins and Chiles over premium ice cream and cardamom-scented green tea, plus tastings of Minnesota wines. A perennial favorite instructor for his demonstration cooking class series at the Arboretum, Iyer has acquired an international reputation for his books and expertise. He was named 2004 teacher of the year by the International Association of Culinary Professionals and is a two time finalist for the James Beard Foundation awards for his journalistic skills and for his 2002 book "The Turmeric Trail: Recipes and Memories from an Indian Childhood" (St. Martin's Press). He is the author of Betty Crocker's "Indian Home Cooking (Wiley, 2001). He resides in Eden Prairie, Minn.
