Do you think anniversaries grow on trees? In 2008, the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum pays tribute to trees in an amazing collection of events and programs.
We invite poets and writers to create an original poem to highlight the beauty and wonder of trees. Your poem should be creative, concise and represent the way you feel about trees.
Fun Facts: The Arboretum is the premier public garden with more than 1,000 acres of magnificent gardens, model landscapes, and natural areas-from woodlands and wetlands to prairie-with extensive collections of northern-hardy plants. Tour the Arboretum on 12.5 miles of garden paths and hiking trails. To enjoy the gardens up close, walk or drive Three-Mile Drive to see more gardens and collections.
Grab a Pen and Paper: You must be enrolled in grades 2-8. (contestants under 18 must have parental consent) You can submit one poem of no more than 20 lines long. Poem content must appeal to a family-friendly audience and make mention of one of the following words (or form of): Tree, Green, Leaves, Foliage, Grass, Plants, Landscape or Flowers The entries will be judged based on originality, creativity and artistic quality. Winning poems will be publicized on the Arboretum website after April 28.
Prizes: (1) winner will be selected in each of two divisions (Division 1 - Grades 2-4, Division 2 - Grades 5-8). Each winner will receive their choice of one free class from the Young Artist or Friday Artist Series at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, Feature on website and Special recognition.
Submission: The Minnesota Landscape Arboretum Poetry Contest begins at 12:00:01 a.m. on Monday, April 7, 2008, and ends at 11:59:59 p.m. on Monday, April 28, 2008. ALL ENTRIES MUST BE RECIEVED BY DEADLINE DATE.
