Fall Color Report: Oct. 20-27, 2011
Fall color in Minnesota Landscape Arboretum's woods, prairies and gardens is past peak, yet there are still some bright flashes. The tamaracks along the bog boardwalk are beginning to turn yellow and gold, and the oak trees are a lovely maroon and rusty brown. The prairies still have a few splashes of gold asters. Many of the Arboretum gardens are still colorful with summer blooms! Visit the Arboretum for the last fling of fall color!
Apple Update: The Arboretum Applehouse will remain open until at least Nov. 6. We have the best supply of Honeycrisp in years and have been picking some high quality late season apples this week. Whether you prefer a tart and juicy Haralson, a sweet Fireside or Snowsweet with a balanced flavor, you will find the apples you enjoy the most right now. One of the newest introductions from the U of M Apple Breeding Program, Snowsweet has great flavor and its flesh stays fresh for hours after slicing, making it a great apple for fruit plates or salads. It's also a super apple for drying. For updates on the Applehouse inventory, call 952-443-1409.
