Clayhouse begins this Saturday!

As part of the Arboretum's "Dirt-O-Rama" summer exhibition, Arizona clay artists Athena and Bill Steen will create a playful earthen structure (roughly 5 ft high by 7 ft wide) on the front lawn of the Learning Center beginning this Saturday, July 14. Come join in the fun and get your hands dirty from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday and Sunday and the weekends of July 21-22 and 28-29. You can also watch them in action July 18-20 & 25-27. Grass Collection Open House

Celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Arboretum's Ornamental Grass Collection (one of the largest in the country) at an open house this Thursday, July 12, from 1-4 p.m. Visit with Mary Meyer, horticulture professor and collection manager, vote for your favorite grass, receive a free poster and just take in the beauty of these amazing plants. Can't make it? Visit an open house on Tuesday, Aug. 21, 1-4 p.m.; Tuesday, Sept. 18, 3-6 p.m.; or Wednesday, Oct. 10, 1-6 p.m

 

Toast & Taste in the Gardens

Make plans to attend the party of the summerToast and Taste in the Gardens, Thursday, July 26, from 6 to 9 p.m.  Presenting Sponsor: UnitedHealth Group.  Sample in-season, fresh, local cuisine from the Twin Cities' top restaurants and savor tastes from Minnesota wineries and breweries in the unparalleled garden setting of the Arboretum. Shop and learn at the SummerHouse.  The Arboretum SummerHouse now has local produce: tomatoes, green beans, cucumbers, zucchini, red potatoes, onions and beets. On sale now are: herb plants and vegetable plants, perennials, hostas and grasses at 50% off...Pottery, iron art, trees and shrubs at 30% off. Don't miss "Top 30 Native Plants for Your Garden" - a free class, Sunday, July 29 from 1-2 p.m.

Summer Music in the Gardens.  Don't miss the second "Summer Music in the Gardens" concert this Thursday, July 12.  Jazziblu will be performing on the terraces behind the Snyder Building from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Jazziblu is the combination of the creative musical stylings of Todd McCormick, pianist, and Charity Bell, vocalist.  The concert is free with gate admission and open to the public. Attendees are invited to bring a picnic. (Rain location: Great Hall). Enjoy other free concerts this summer on August 9 and September 13.

Journey Through Thyme: Herbs in the Garden, Kitchen, & Beyond.  Friday, August 10th, 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. $45 member/$60 non-member. Come and immerse yourself in the pleasures of herbs during this special Minnesota Herb Society-sponsored event filled with cooking demonstrations and tastings, fascinating presentations, great conversation, and wonderful food. Your tuition covers instruction, lunch, admission to the Arboretum, a goodie bag and other extra touches. Register online.

Noah's Here!: Chef Noah Balow.  Thursday, July 19, 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. $50/$60, Learning Center. A fabulous meal paired with local beers. Register online.

—Beginning Photography Immersion. Saturday, July 28, 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. $95/$110. Learn how to take better photographs of your family, special events, and vacation scenes. Register online.

A Flower's Power Day Camp. Tuesday-Thursday, July 17-19, 9 a.m. - noon.  $75/$84. Especially for 1st-2nd grade grads, this 3-day summer camp will reveal the close-up wondrous world of flowers and their pollinators. Register online.

Orchids for Sale. Purchase orchids and orchid supplies from Orchids Limited in the Arboretum's Gift Store. Orchids are priced from $20-$60. Supplies include: potting bark, fertilizer and humidity trays.

Note: The Arboretum and SummerHouse will remain open during road construction on Hwy. 5 this summer. During road closure, please follow detours.
