Identification bands will be placed on the young osprey that nest near and on Arboretum and Horticultural Research Center grounds for the purpose of further studying their behavior and flight patterns. This will take place Friday, June 29, at the following times and locales: 8:30 a.m. on HRC property near Hwys. 5 & 41; at 9:15 a.m. near Bavaria Rd. and 82nd St.; and around 10 a.m. near the SummerHouse on HRC grounds. (Banding also takes place Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Carver Park Reserve. Pls. note this is new info - updated 6/28. The SummerHouse bird-banding is on Friday at 10 a.m., not Thursday as previously mentioned.) The public is invited to watch the banding process. Just look for the bucket truck and you'll know you're at the right spot. Please observe any Hwy. 5 detours in the area.
Hundreds of Arboretum donors and guests enjoyed a lovely evening and dinner. See party photos. More than $50,000 was raised for the Fund-A-Need, a new step-on, step-off Arboretum Cirulator that will transport visitors across the grounds. In addition, thanks to the generous donations from a live auction, mystery gifts, corporate/patron sponsorships and in-kind support that benefit the Arboretum.
