Spring in Bloom

Spring is in full swing at the Arboretum! Three-Mile Drive is open, and blooms are opening despite a brief covering of snow this week. (Fortunately, early spring flowering bulbs are quite frost-tolerant, and undamaged by snow and these cooler temperatures.) Get your own spring bloom report here or call (612) 625-9791.

From Earth Day activities to brilliant blooms (32,000 tulip, 10,000 daffodil and 6,000 hyacinth bulbs!) … it’s time to visit the Arboretum and celebrate what’s in store for spring!

Summer Fun for Kids

It's prime time for registering the kids for summer fun and learning at the Arboretum. Check out Peapods for Preschoolers Summer Daycamps and Summer Children's Garden.

Here's a peek at The Children's Garden, which begins in May:

The first seeds of the Children's Garden Summer have sprouted in the Learning Center Greenhouse. Lipstick peppers, Genovese Basil, Sun Gold tomatoes and Italian parsley are this year's firsts to poke their green leaves up towards the light.

In just over one month, these tiny little greenhouse seedlings will be ready for Children's Gardeners to transplant outside into their own Arboretum garden plots during planting days.
And then a summer of growing fun really begins for kids ages pre-K through 8th grade.

Registration is open and slots are filling fast with planting days right around the corner. Check out http://www.arboretum.umn.edu/childrensgarden.aspx for details and a link to online registration for all the summer programming for kids at the Arboretum.
