Free, Fun, Fabulous Family Day!
|
|
This Sunday is Family Day at the Arboretum! Bring the kids for an all-day “birthday party” to celebrate our 50/100 anniversary. Events include: the 1K Birthday Bash Dash with KARE-11’s Kim Insley at 10:30 a.m.; Raptor Center demos at 11 a.m. and 1:05 p.m.; Swedish fiddler Ross Sutter at 12:10 and 2:15 p.m.; and complimentary cake and ice cream from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.. While you’re here, visit the Maze Garden and “Treeology” exhibit, including the just-installed “Grown Home” retreat. Complimentary Coca-Cola products and birthday gift bags (while they last) for kids. Family Day is presented by Target. Free admission all day.

Arb Classes Mix Fun & Fulfillment
|
|
Some artists use paintbrush and canvas; others wield chef’s knives & pastry brushes. If you’re among the former, please consider joining Rick Kochenash’s “Art in the Garden Retreat,” a four-day plein-air oil painting experience set for Thursday, June 26, through Sunday, June 29. Paint in the Arboretum gardens while receiving one-on-one instruction from master painter Kochenash. Fee is $390 members/$425 non-members (includes meals). If you fall into the latter category, check out our “Cooking with our Restaurateurs of the Year” series, featuring JD Fratzke of The Strip Club on Thursday, June 26, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at our Andrus Learning Center. Enjoy a multicourse meal with complementary wines. $50 member/$60 nonmember.

Summer Camps & Family Fun
|
|
Attention 5th-8th grade graduates! New this year, the Arboretum is offering specialized 3-day camps just for you. We are also continuing our popular one-day art classes on Friday afternoons. For the 2nd-4th grade grad in your life, why not try a tree-themed day camp in celebration of "Tree-ology"? We recommend the science-based “Trees are Tree-mendous” or the physically challenging “Stilt Walkers.” And for 1st-2nd grade grads we recommend the science-based “A Flower’s Power” and the cooking fun of “Kitchen Creators” day camps.
This month’s Weekend Family Fun theme is “Herbal Crafts.” We invite you to drop in between noon and 4 p.m. Saturday or Sunday at the Marion Andrus Learning Center, where you can take enjoy an “herbal experience” at several fun learning stations. Free with gate admission.

Purchase an Arboretum membership in June and your name will automatically be entered into a drawing to win a free Arboretum Group Picnic for up to 50 people, complete with fully catered gourmet menu, reserved picnic site and guided walking tour of our glorious summer gardens.
