Don't Miss Saturdays in Bloom July 18

Bring the Arboretum home, literally and beautifully! In this class, you will create a seasonal arrangement that's ready to adorn your coffee table or give as a gift, using exclusive Arboretum harvested flowers and foliage. Mary Becker, a professional floral designer with 35 years of experience, will demonstrate design elements and techniques. We provide locally grown natures bounty and all the supplies, you experience the joy of floral arranging. Check our website for future themes explored each month through September.

Herbal Recipes Made Easy – Free

1-3 p.m., Sunday, July 19, Arboretum SummerHouse

Learn how to create herbal vinegars, oils, dips, blends and pesto.

Make them for your next dinner party or use them as gifts.   Free class includes recipes, discussion, demonstrations and samplings. Instructor Shirley Mah Kooyman is a Hennepin County master gardener, botanist, educator and herb aficionado.

Gain the insight for understanding scientific plant names and the logic behind them.  Learn the what, why, and how of botanical Latin. 

 

Design and Build Your Own Rustic Garden Furniture

9 a.m.-5 p.m., Saturday, July 25, Arboretum SummerHouse

$149 member/$159 non-member

Make a whimsical twig chair or slab garden bench. No special skills are needed.  Please bring pencil, tape measure, utility knife and a power drill if you have one. Lavender: Growing and Using Its Essential Oils

1-3 p.m., Sunday, July 26, Snyder Classroom 2

$40 member / $50 non-member

Lavender is used in aromatherapy for its calming and relaxing properties.  Learn how to grow and utilize lavender in creating different products for your own use or as gifts. Shirley Mah Kooyman is the Arboretum’s plant specialist.

Osprey Banding            This Friday


The Arboretum’s population of Osprey is growing. This Friday, July 17, staff from Three Rivers Park District will band more of the new birds born at the Arboretum this summer. They tentatively plan to do the banding between        10 and 11 a.m., Friday. If you are interested in watching, please call Matt at     952-443-1482, to confirm the time and place for Friday’s banding. 

 

 

 

 

Chile 

Explore the Gardens of Chile Oct. 27-Nov. 4 

 

Travel enthusiasts are invited to join host Peter Olin for an adventure to Chile, a narrow country squeezed between the Andes Mountains and the Pacific Ocean. Chile, the longest and narrowest country in South America, lies in an area rich with natural beauty. Highlights of the trip include the Matetic Vineyards, the Andes Mountains and Pablo Neruda’s home and garden. This adventure takes place from Oct. 27 to Nov. 4. The price is $2,995 per person and includes air, hotel and tours.
