“Ar-BRR-etum Day” celebrates winter outdoors on Dec. 31

Here’s a healthy and fun way to celebrate the New Year’s Eve holiday:  The Minnesota Landscape Arboretum has designated Thursday, Dec. 31, as “Ar-BRRR-etum Day” – a celebration of winter and outdoor recreation!

From 1 to 4 p.m. on Dec. 31, visitors will have a chance to try out snowshoe equipment and take a few lessons on-site, courtesy of Hoigaard’s sporting goods.  Snowshoe equipment will be available for use, free of charge for those who wish to try out this popular winter sport on the Arboretum’s 3.3 miles of snowshoe trails, Meet in Oswald Visitor Center.  In fact, Mpls. St. Paul magazine named the Arboretum the best place for snowshoeing in the Twin Cities!

Bring your own skis to enjoy 8.5 miles of cross-country ski trails. The experts from Hoigaard’s can offer tips for ski touring, too.  The Arboretum is a perfect place to enjoy a quick, refreshing loop, burn off those holiday calories and bid 2009 goodbye.

Ar-BRRR-etum Day participants receive complimentary hot chocolate from noon to 2 p.m. plus discounts in the Arboretum Gift Store.  Arboretum grounds are open 8 a.m. to sunset and the Oswald Visitor Center is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sunday.

For ski trail information, call 952-443-1400, extension 7055. See you on the trails!
