Painting the Full Moon Light in Watercolor
4 – 8 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 1, $80 member/$95 non-member, includes light supper and materials, for all levels, especially beginners,   Classroom 2, Snyder Building

Watercolor has a reputation for being a difficult medium, but it is ideally suited for sunset and moonrise paintings. In that light, only simple shapes are apparent and complicated landscape details are softened. Thus painters can focus on creating strong compositions based on dark, medium, and light values and more freely explore the playful possibilities of watercolor. Anyone from the experienced artist to the art avoider would benefit from and enjoy this class. Artist Georgia Kandiko is a member of the Minnesota Watercolor Society and teaches watercolor at the Edina Art Center. Participation in a fine art workshop includes an invitation to participate in the December student exhibit/sale.

The Youth Voices Conference is the first youth-planned and hosted national conference put on by the University of Minnesota Landscape Arboretum. The highlight of the conference will be creative presentations given by teams of youth from different garden-based programs around the nation. Listen as they present lessons learned, memories, and the impacts of garden programs on their lives. Youth are rarely given the opportunity to influence the direction of program planning, design and implementation. Join us for a truly extraordinary experience, where youth are given the opportunity to share their take on things. With an emphasis on youth employment, leadership, and empowerment through garden-based programs, this is sure to be a one-of-a-kind experience.
