UPDATE FROM MARISHA FUTER OR SANDY TANCK 2007 Stroll at your own pace and drop in to experience the many hands-on programs for families available throughout the year: investigation stations, crafts, planting projects, cooking for kids, self-guided treasure hunts, and exhibits. Weekend drop-in activities and summer free Thursday evenings let families not only play together, but also learn together. Weekend Drop-in Activities Join us on the weekends year-round for fun family activities at the Marion Andrus Learning Center. Whether we are cooking up a storm in the Harvest Kitchen, looking through a microscope, or planting a mini-garden, you are bound to have a blast and learn something new. Activities change monthly. Saturdays and Sundays, 12:00 - 4:00 p.m. Visit the Events Calendar for more information on the current program. "Under the Oak" Natural play area After only one summer, ‘Under the Oak' has become a favorite family destination. Crawl through the willow tunnel, test your balance on the stump steps, build a fort, or let your imagination take flight at the tea-party table or puppet stage. Visit the ‘Toad Abode' or explore the elfin village of stumps, connected by miniature ladders and swinging bridges, furnished with tiny twig beds and benches. A perfect place to linger, relax, and delight in natural play materials! May - October, 8am - 8pm "Sunshine For Dinner, Anyone?" This permanent exhibit in the Marion Andrus Learning Center gives parents and kids a look into the world of plants. Kids can walk inside a giant leaf, make an apple grow right before their eyes and travel from harvest to harvest, all around the earth, to see people picking bananas, cocoa pods and cutting sugarcane. Explore our "Please Touch" Greenhouse and discover plants that are exotic, prickly, fragrant or beautiful. The Greenhouse is a perfect spot for some "green relief" on a cold winter day or a new summer quest with your children. Monday - Friday, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Saturday & Sunday, 12 - 4 p.m. LET'S COOK TOGETHER! FEE per session, for one adult and up to 2 children: $20 member / $23 non-member Spend Saturday morning exploring tastes and textures in these fun hands-on classes. Learn new seasonal recipes while you and your youngster create a delicious & nutritious lunch! Each session is unique, so you can sign up for all three!
