CityFresh Summer Employment Programs Graduates of the Children's Garden in Residence program described have the opportunity to apply for summer work experience in the garden-based work experience programs. Four to six work teams (6 teenagers in each team, paired with an adult teacher/leader) are formed each summer. The exact work project each team takes on depends on the make-up of the group and available teaching staff. These work experience programs are conducted in partnership with neighborhood sponsor agencies. During the past 10 years the following work groups have been part of this program:
- CityFresh Vegetables: a hands-on entrepreneurial-based program growing and selling specialty produce to area restaurants
- CityFresh Flowers: a hands-on entrepreneurial-based program growing, purchasing, designing, and selling fresh floral arrangements to area businesses
- CityFresh Greeting Cards: a hands-on entrepreneurial-based program designing, producing, and marketing hand-made paper greeting cards and/or garden photograph greeting cards
- Landscape Installation and Maintenance: a hands-on landscape related work experience that includes tear-out and replant of a home landscape and/or installation of a new landscape
- Raised Bed Installation: a hands-on landscape related work experience that builds and installs raised beds ready for planting. This project can be entrepreneur or community service based.
- Children's Garden Mentors: a leadership experience being a member of the summer teaching team for the Children's Garden in Residence (described above) including; participating in weekly planning meetings and assisting with program set up, teaching, and tear-down.
- Arboretum Mentors: a work opportunity spending the summer shadowing and working alongside an arboretum employee
