The Minnesota Landscape Arboretum presents a summer season with glorious gardens in bloom and something for everyone—from glass in the gardens to botanic art and butterflies. Whether you are a garden lover, a nature explorer or an outdoors fan, the summer gardens are yours to explore and enjoy—from exquisite “English cottage-style” color schemes to the rose garden, Maze Garden, azaleas, the peony walk and more!

ONGOING EXHIBITS

Butterflies: Beauty in Flight” now through Aug. 17. Live butterflies, all native to Minnesota, are swarming among the luscious plants in the Meyer-Deats Conservatory (Snyder Building). It’s a rare, close-up view of these amazing, magical pollinators. $3 entry fee (free for ages 2 and under). Open daily: 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Gate fee applies. (Free days for members: Monday, June 16, or Sundays, July 20 or Aug. 17.)  

 Nature in Glass: The Wonders of Craig Mitchell Smith” now through Aug. 31. Don't miss these 32 unique and stunning glass sculptures in Arboretum gardens, all created by the nationally acclaimed glass artist. Discover a 15-foot dandelion puff in the Lily Walk, a field of glass sunflowers, copper-colored iridescent koi fish in the Japanese Garden pond and more!

Gallery Exhibits
April 1-June 16: “Spring Color Blast”.
The beauty rituals of vibrant spring as interpreted by talented local and nationally known painters. Reedy Gallery, Oswald Visitor Center.

May 18-July 20: “Bugs and Butterflies”. Photographer Bill Johnson brings beetles and bumblebees, dragonflies, water bugs and butterflies up close and personal. Restaurant Gallery, Oswald Visitor Center.

June 24-Sept. 1: “Highgrove Florilegium”. Forty botanical art prints depicting the plants in Prince Charles’ garden, as interpreted by the finest botanical artists in the world.  Reedy Gallery, Oswald Visitor Center.

Yoga in the Gardens

June 14 & 22, July 3 & 20, Aug. 7 & 24. Times: 6 p.m. on Thursday sessions, Noon on Sunday sessions. Savor the unique experience of yoga outdoors in the Arboretum’s serene gardens. Led by Life Time Fitness instructors. Free for Arboretum and Life Time members. Register at www.arboretum.umn.edu/yoga.aspx.                   

Traditional Teas

Weekend Family Fun

Every Saturday & Sunday. Noon to 4 p.m. (drop-in), Learning Center. Bring the family for hands-on activities and fun. Themes: June—Hungry Caterpillars; July—Nectar Sippers; August—Prairie Pollinators.

ONE-TIME EVENTS IN CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER

June 14 “Twelfth Night”.  6:30 p.m. Enjoy one of Shakespeare’s most popular plays, performed by Theatre Pro Rata. Free with gate admission.

June 14 Walk with Matt. June 14 & Aug. 23, 9-11 a.m. Explore the Arboretum’s wild areas and look for bobolinks and meadowlarks with Matt Schuth. $10 member/$24 non-member.

CANCELLED DUE TO WEATHER: June 19 Arboretum Outdoors with Hoigaard’s. 1 & 6 p.m. Learn Nordic walking techniques with Hoigaard’s staff who will provide instruction and equipment to try. Oswald Visitor Center.  Free with gate admission.

June 24-26  Andersen  Horticultural Library Turns 40! Celebrate the 40th anniversary of this jewel of a library in the Snyder Building with special activities. Key events: June 24—Librarian Kathy Allen displays and turns pages of the very rare Highgrove Florilegium book of watercolor images from noon to 2 p.m. June 25—Allen presents a talk on “Mania and Delirium: Plants that Drove People Crazy” and explores plant crazes such as Tulipmania, Fern Fever and Orchidelirium from 1 to 2 p.m. (also add your memories to a Memory Book and enjoy refreshments). June 26—‘Green Carpet’ entry and grand-opening reception for the Highgrove Florilegium exhibit, with short program including remarks by U of M librarian Wendy Lougee. Reservations at 952-443-1405. July 13, 15 & 16 Arboretum Auxiliary Private Garden Tours. Several morning departures. Tour four exquisite private gardens in the west metro, via air-conditioned coach. Also enjoy brunch/lunch on the Arboretum’s Morgan Terrace, accompanied by live music. July 16 Toast & Taste. 7-9 p.m. It’s the garden party of summer! Stroll the Arboretum gardens while enjoying samples from the Twin Cities top ‘green & local’ restaurants and regional brews and wines. $75 per person. $125 for special early entry and reception at 6 p.m. Reservations at www.arboretum.umn.edu/toastandtaste.aspx.

July 20. Member free day at Butterflies: Beauty in Flight exhibit

July 19-20. Master Gardeners at Yard & Garden Help Desk, 10 a.m. -1 p.m.

Aug. 8  Chanhassen/Carver County Day. All day. A special way to celebrate our wonderful neighbors. Free admission all day for residents of Carver County and Chanhassen. Coffee, refreshments and opening remarks by Arboretum and city/county officials at 10 a.m. Enjoy guided walking or tram tours or explore on your own on foot or aboard the new, free, hop-on/hop-off Arboretum Circulator!

Aug. 16-17 Art Crawl Through the Gardens. 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday and Noon-4:00 p.m. Sunday. Enjoy an outdoor art fair featuring works by local artists, along Three-Mile Drive. Free with gate admission.   

Tram tours are available daily, varying times. Effective, tram tickets are now $5 each.
