 Take a Hike! ...  At the Arboretum

 Chanhassen, Minn. (Feb. 24) - Clear your mind and soak up nature's beauty by joining a guided hike at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum in Chanhassen.  Here's a sampling of upcoming walking opportunities, all open to the public and lasting one to two hours.  Normal gate fees apply ($7 for adults; free for ages 15 and younger and also free for members).

Winter Wonderland Walkabout
Saturday, March 7, 11 a.m.  (one-hour walk departing from Oswald Visitor Center)
Life goes on under winter's quiet cover. Venture out with a naturalist to search the Arboretum's snowy landscape for traces and trails of winter residents.  Discover the strategies of plants and animals that survive and thrive in the frosty northland.  Warm up afterward in the restaurant with a free cup of hot chocolate. Hot beverage coupon included with tour.  Limit 30. Fee: $5. Tickets available at Visitor Center Desk. 

Spring Guided Walks
Explore Arboretum grounds for the first signs of spring on the following walks. Unless otherwise noted, participants should meet in the Arboretum's Ordway parking lot.  Walks are $5 per person (payable at the Oswald Visitor Center). 

"Catch the Early Bird" Walk, Saturday, April 18, 8:30-10:30 a.m.
"Welcome Spring" Wildflower Walks, Saturdays, April 25 and May 9, 10:30-11:30 a.m.
"Warbler Watch"  Birding Walk, Wednesday, May 13, and Saturday, May 16, 8:30-10:30 a.m.
"Frogging Rendezvous," Thursdays, May 7 and 14, 7:30-9 p.m. (meet in Spring Peeper Meadow parking lot).
"Late Spring Migrants" Birding Walk, Wednesday, May 27, 8:30-10:30 a.m.
"Ladyslippers and More" Wildflower Walk, Saturday, May 30. 10:30-11:30 a.m. 

Arboretum Outdoors! With Hoigaard's
Wednesday, April 1, 1 and 6 p.m.
Make the most of your winter walks by incorporating Nordic walking techniques!   Invented in Finland in the 1930s, Nordic walking offers a full-body workout through the use of special walking poles and proven stride techniques.  Linda Lemke of Hoigaard's will demonstrate the techniques of Nordic walking on Wednesday, April 1, at 1 p.m. and again at 6 p.m., at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum.  She will bring 30 poles for public use, free of charge.  Interested participants are asked to check in at the Oswald Visitor Center.
