Spring flourishes indoors, as well as out, with Rick Kochenash's graceful images of favorite flowers and gardens. An established artist and well-known teacher, Rick is a long-time friend of the Arboretum.
ARTIST'S STATEMENT
"I could tell you what was outside the window of every classroom of my grade school days better than any message chalked or taped to the front blackboard. Come to think of it, my life now still has me seeking to fulfill those dreams that called to me then. Each day brings a blank canvas, which starts off fresh at dawn and bristles with potential. I am challenged to paint in my present before the light of the day ends.
"Originally from Pennsylvania, I am a graduate of Kutztown University; I have a B.S. in Art Education. The tools of my trade were learned primarily at the Atelier LeSueur in Minneapolis. Now, at a 20-year remove from my formal education, I've matured and can paint those impulses more freely from the heart, assisting or overriding my eyes.
"Living near the Arboretum has allowed me to paint beautifully arranged gardens and flowers. It is my relationships with my God and Father and with my family that I deem as the most important and relevant aspect of my biography. More than my work, education or awards, these relationships define me.
"I believe that the fragile grace of the flower teaches of the absolutely effortless capacity to grow from a simple seed to a stunning, beautiful, and sensuous delight. It teaches also about the temporal nature of this life.
"I thank the Landscape Arboretum for giving me this opportunity to display the ruminations from my heart onto canvas and paper."
