Arboretum Admission Increases by $2

Chanhassen, Minn. (May 18, 2009) - The Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, a premier public garden and horticultural research center, will raise its daily admission fee to $9 for adults, effective June 1.  This is an increase of $2 from the current fee of $7, which has been in effect since 2003. University of Minnesota students and youths up to age 15 will continue to be admitted free to the Arboretum (school field trips and group tours are handled separately). Approximately 20,000 members also receive free admission year-round, as part of their annual membership fee.

The Arboretum Board of Trustees, in an Executive Committee meeting last week, approved the admission increase to help raise additional revenue in these challenging budgetary times. In comparison to other botanical gardens and arboreta across the country, and to other Twin Cities attractions, the Arboretum remains quite modestly priced.  “The Arboretum remains an affordable major Twin Cities attraction and educational resource, and will continue to serve the community in a number of ways, “ stated  Mary Meyer, Arboretum interim director.

The largest public garden in the Upper Midwest, the arboretum is part of the University of Minnesota College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences and a community and national resource for horticultural and environmental information, research and public education.  Further information: www.arboretum.umn.edu.
