2009 Summer Day Camps for 1st - 2nd Grade Grads

Kids 

DIRT DETECTIVES

Session I (1st-2nd grade grads): June 16-18, 9am - 12noon
FEE: $63 member/$72 non-member
Unravel the mysteries of plants. Explore the Arboretum gardens and soil, conduct experiments, and write a secret message using invisible ink! Start new plants without using seeds (use leaves, roots, rhizomes, stems or spores instead). Bring home plants and projects to continue discoveries at home.

Session II (2nd-4th grade grads): June 16-18, 1 - 4pm
FEE: $63 member/$72 non-member

ART AT THE ARB

July 7-9, 9 - 11:30am
FEE: $56 member/ $63 non-member
Explore the Arboretum with art instructor Gretchen Wagener and create art based on observations. Experiment with pencil, paint, clay and pastels. (Different projects each summer for repeat campers.)

FLY AWAY PLANTS

Session I (1st-2nd grade grads): July 14-16, 9am - 12noon
FEE: $63 member/$72 non-member
Some plants are airborne only as seeds, and some spend their entire lives 200 feet in the air! Examine the ways that plants use the air, from breathing to flying to pollination. Experiment with seed propulsion by catapult and parachute, use the sun to cook a snack, and bring home special air-loving plants.

Session II (2nd-4th grade grads): July 14-16, 1 - 4pm
FEE: $63 member/$72 non-member

FAIRIES AND MINI-BEASTS

Session I: July 28-30, 9 - 12noon
FEE: $63 member/$72 non-member
Look up close as we look down low. There is a tiny world beneath your feet, have you noticed it? Plant a teeny
tiny garden for you, attract some of the fairies' animal friends, build a woodland home for a fairy and take a
micro-hike to explore the mini-beast neighborhood!

Camp completed.

Session II: July 28-30, 1 - 4pm

KITCHEN CREATORS

August 5-6, 9am - 1pm
FEE: $60 member/$68 non-member
Wraps and Rolls! From calzones to burritos, eggrolls to samosas, experiment with all the different ways to roll up garden fresh ingredients into a delicious lunch each day. Taught by Chef Jenny Breen. (Food is as organic and local as possible.)
