‘Autumn Unplugged' at the Arboretum

Chanhassen, Minn. (Sept. 10, 2009) - Turn off the TV, mute the cellphone, log off your Facebook page!  Now, step outside the door, "turn on" your senses and get ready to enjoy "Autumn Unplugged" at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum.  It's the best show in town.  Within a few weeks, the Arboretum will boast an exquisite panorama of fall color.  (Call our Fall Color Alert Line at 952-443-1400, ext. 5010 for updates.)  We invite you to come out and enjoy!

"Autumn Unplugged"- running from mid-September through Nov. 1 at the Arboretum - celebrates the serene beauty of fall with its golden sunlight, brisk air, crackling leaves and flaming palette.  The centerpiece event will be "Pumpkin Palooza," an eye-popping extravaganza of fall's favorite plant in all its glorious variety, that will run from Oct. 3 to Nov. 1 in the Great Hall of the Oswald Visitor Center.  Visitors will also enjoy plentiful pumpkins scattered around the grounds, plus a few stylish scarecrows!  Here's a cornucopia of  "Autumn Unplugged" main events at the Arboretum.  (Visit: www.arboretum.umn.edu.).  "Autumn Unplugged" is presented by COUNTRY Financial.

'Pumpkin Palooza' Exhibit

This dazzling display of hundreds of cucurbits (pumpkins and squash) reflects the endless variety of pumpkins harvested today.  Large and small, orange, blue or white, there's a pumpkin for everyone!  

Pumpkin Palooza Weekend - Oct. 24-25
Oswald Visitor Center & Arboretum Grounds
A pumpkin party with fun for everyone!  "Mini-Pumpkin Heads" crafts for kids Saturday and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. at the Andrus Learning Center ($1 per pumpkin); pumpkin-carving demonstrations from 1 to 3  p.m. and a screening of  "Bill's Big Pumpkins" documentary at 1 and 2:30 p.m. both days.  Plus, visit with Arboretum pumpkin expert John Thule who will share pumpkin-growing tips.

In September, learn all about marvelous marshes and cattail crafts.  Make a cattail creation to take home.  In October, the theme is Minnesota's Healthful Harvest, exploring the variety of pumpkins, gourds, apples growing in our state.  Andrus Learning Center.

'Fall Foray' Nature Walks

Explore the secrets of the fall landscape with a staff naturalist.  Meet in Ordway lot. Fee of $12 member & $15 non-member is payable at the Oswald Visitor Center.
