Nov. 12, 2009 - The grapevine theft at the Horticultural Research Center is a serious and still unfolding situation, making news headlines in local and metro media the last few days. The Arboretum and the University are cooperating fully with law enforcement and the investigation headed up by Carver County Sheriff's Office.
We are reviewing internal procedures and examining security and oversight, identifying measures that will improve protection of University fruit-breeding program and Arboretum/HRC property. We certainly believe in our employees, particularly at the HRC, and want to recognize their dedication and hard work. I thank all our staff for their commitment and cooperation in helping to resolve this matter as Carver County law enforcement continues their investigation to apprehend those responsible.
Mary H. Meyer, Ph.D. Arboretum Interim Director & Professor
