MN Corn Growers to Sponsor Arboretum's 'Summer in Motion' Events
Chanhassen, MN (May 15, 2013) - The Minnesota Landscape Arboretum will be teeming with fun-filled family events when "Summer in Motion" opens June 1. Presented by the Minnesota Corn Growers Association (MCGA), this three-month summer celebration will feature "Gophers in the Gardens," a series of ten 5-ft.-tall Goldy Gopher statues celebrating the Arboretum's University of Minnesota ties. Each statue is uniquely designed - and strategically placed in Arboretum gardens and collections. Also on tap are Music in the Gardens performances by local singers/ensembles, monthly outdoor family movies, yoga in the gardens, open houses in the gardens with experts, plus exhibits on Goldy Gopher history.
"The Arboretum is a wonderful place for families to experience nature and to also learn about good conservation practices," said Tom Haag, president of the MCGA, which also sponsored the Arboretum's Powerhouse Plants exhibit in 2010. Founded in 1978, the Minnesota Corn Growers Association numbers over 6,500 members and is based in Shakopee, Minn. The nonprofit organization is dedicated to identifying and promoting opportunities for the state's corn growers while enhancing quality of life.
"We are grateful for this partnership that highlights a commitment to healthy families, innovation and sustainable agriculture practices," said Ed Schneider, Arboretum director.
The public is invited to grand-opening ceremonies for the "Gophers in the Gardens" exhibit on Saturday, June 1, featuring appearances by Goldy Gopher and the U of M Marching Band Fraternity, all starting at noon.
