Poncet is the grandson of painter Maurice Denis and son of painter Marcel Poncet. He believes that movement is essential in good sculpture, and he strives for a breathless balance in his work, so that as you look at it, you feel that with a gentle push, the piece would fall. Poncet has said, "Everything is moving in nature, in life."
For the Young (and Young at Heart)
Stand on one foot and raise your arms to mimic the shapes suggested by Poncet's sculpture. Is it easy or hard to keep your balance?
