Hot chocolate

Inside or Out, This is the Place!

Our 9-plus miles of groomed cross-country ski and snowshoe trails beckon those who embrace winter!  Follow it up with a cup of hot chocolate in the restaurant’s cozy fireplace setting.  If indoor pursuits are more to your liking, immerse yourself in Reedy Gallery’s “The Long Zoom” exhibit of watercolors by talented local artists Jeanne Long and Sandra Muzzy, complete with an irresistible display of sketchpads and natural artifacts.  The talented Arboretum Photographers Society is responsible for the “Blooming Fantasy” juried show of Arboretum scenes through the seasons, on exhibit til Feb. 8. Of course, a perennial favorite is the Meyer-Deats Conservatory in the Snyder Building.  Filled with lush tropical plants, it’s an instant getaway!

Orchids

Totally Orchids -

Stunning, vibrant and unique, orchids are amazing plants.  These floral all-stars are amazingly diverse and adaptable, growing in tundra, rainforest, desert and swamps.  Did you know that more than 45 different orchid species grow natively in Minnesota?  You can view this plant in all its splendor when “Totally Orchids – Delight at First Sight” opens Feb. 13, in the Great Hall of the Oswald Visitor Center. Presented by the Arboretum and Orchids Limited of Plymouth, “Totally Orchids” will highlight a variety of  cultivars, all arranged in attractive planters on eye-level pedestals.

For a sneak peek, plan on attending “Orchids Tropical Fantasy Preview Event” on Thursday, Feb. 12, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.  Sample wine and appetizers as you stroll among the orchids. The preview also includes orchid sales and a silent auction. Tickets are $35 and may be ordered online or by calling the Arboretum Auxiliary info line at 952-443-1400, extension 7052.
